NYC’s Best Undercover Photo Studios

Photo Studio Rental New YorkNYC’s Best Undercover Photo Studios
BY ADAM MARTIN

“A  R E V O L U T I O N  OF
U N I Q U E
D E S I G N”

Laura Little is quietly leading a revolution in NYC. It’s not a political coup or a social upheaval, but a revolution of unique design. It began with her own foray into photography—she has a natural eye for composition—and has since extended to include some of the best underground shoot spaces in the city.
The Big Apple boasts some iconic public spaces, and there are more than a few top-notch private photo studios available for rent. Each space, public and private, offers something a little different, though, and Laura’s studios and 28on27 and 1315 certainly warrant consideration.

What makes them different?

BY A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER
Multiple spaces are available for rental, ranging from as intimate as 750 square-feet of space all the way up to 4,500 square-feet. Each studio is
equipped with the photographer and creative in mind, including lighting, hair & make-up stations and easy set-up for your shoot

LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE THAT'S ALL ABOUT THE SHOOT
The ambience alone sets these spaces apart: rich hardwood floors, available wifi and iPod connections conveniences—tables, racks and freight entrance—to make any photographer feel at home. The environment is both laid-back and fresh, allowing the photographer to concentrate on the shoot.
They are what a photo studio shoot be: a place to focus on the shoot, itself.
Of course, that’s hardly surprising. When a skilled photographer makes her own studios available, you’d expect them to be top of the line, and Laura Little delights in her craft.
You can see it in her photos, as well as in her studio spaces -.

THE INDIE ARTIST
But there’s another reason to choose Laura’s studios over others. Small, independent firms,
like Laura’s, provide photographers and brands with unique shooting locations and help to enrich NYC’s culture in innumerable ways. Sure, there are large commercial firms out there with plenty of amenities and decent pricing, but there’s something to be said for supporting one of your own, especially when the shoot space is so well designed.

Booking 28on27 or 1315 Studios doesn’t just grant you access to hip, clean, well-equipped
studio space. You get more than that. You get a space created for artists like you, by an artist like you.
And, you are supporting one of the things that makes New York such an amazing city—namely, the rich and diverse number of options available for indie artists of all kinds.

It's true what they say, givers do gain...

Ya gotta give some to get some, which is why in this newsletter we’re telling you about two causes that 28on27 and 1315 is throwing their backs against.

Dario Donates!
Our Hero is Dario, and he’s in the buff because he donated all his clothes to other girls and boys that needed them. Well not ALL his clothes, just the gently used ones that he’s outgrown.

28on27 will be accepting gently worn, clean kid and baby clothes from now until the middle of December. All you have to do is drop by the studio with your bag of goodies, and we’ll make sure it gets to a family that needs it.

Drop off hours are between 4pm and 6pm Monday - Friday.

Not only will you feel the love, but you’ll also get an invite to take a photo with Santa in December sponsored by Gotham Family Photo.

If your baby free but love this cause and want to contribute, help us by putting it on blast through face book and twitter.

The event will feature artwork by Laura Little Photographer and by artist Fumero.

Fall Fashion Finds!

September 23rd 2013

Push those summer clothes to the back of the closet...

and don the latest fall fashions. Here are a few tips to ensure you look great as we transition into autumn.

FOR THE LADIES
Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, pastels are making a comeback this fall. Runways have been full of baby blues and pale pinks, but, as with all in vogue looks, there’s a right way to wear them and a wrong way. The trick is to pair pastel colors with traditional fall colors.
Oversized coats are also trending. Think menswear-inspired. As for colors, pastels work, as well as more traditional coat hues like gray or olive green.

And last but not least on your shopping list for fall fashions is leather, (we love the Fall All Saints Collection) Over-the-knee boots make a strong statement and look as good worn with pants or with a skirt. And speaking of pants, leather pants are a great option this year. Paired with a cashmere sweater, for example, you can’t go wrong.

FOR THE GUYS
Men, it’s time to re-embrace the classic, clean look of the camel coat. The lighter color will set you apart from all the navy blues (a big color for fall/winter of 2012), grays and blacks. Worn with darker colors, a camel coat really pops.

Cotton is always a good choice for fabrics, but it’s fairly common place. To stand out, tweed and wool look to be big this year. Jackets, blazers, coats, suits and sweaters that incorporate tweed, wool or a wool blend (if you don’t want to spend the day itching) will keep you warm and looking good.

As for footwear, like the ladies, men should invest in a good pair of boots. Leather boots in brown or black work well dressed up or down, and should keep your feet dry and warm, whatever the weather.

And remember, guys and girls, you don’t have to break the bank to look good. A few quick Google searches will give you an eye for what fashions to snag when out shopping, and there are bargains to be found. Know what you’re looking for and hit the stores, geared up to be in style this autumn!

Rock a Tie for New York Fashion Week!

Event Space Rental

September 4th 2013
Event Space Rental

It's Fashion Week! Time to don that tie and here's how...

If you’re wearing a tie, it will often be one of the first things people notice about your ensemble. It’s critical, then, that you get the basics right. Narrow ties are in right now, so let any broad ties you have take a well deserved break in your closet and stick to skinny ties this year. (The widest point should be between 2 ¼ and 3 inches wide.)

Length is important, too. The tip of your tie should fall at your belt. Few things kill the look of an otherwise stylish tie like wearing it too short or too long.

THE BOW TIE
If you’re looking for a stand-out fashion choice, the bow tie isn’t just for stuffy history teachers any more. Patterned bow ties can be worn with a suit, sweater or even just an oxford, and will give you a unique, stylish look. Just be sure to opt for the tie-it-yourself variety.

COLOR AND PATTERN
Solid colors are always safe. They give a guy a clean look and are easy to match. The obvious choice here is black or dark blue, though any dark solid color will work. If you prefer a pattern, stripes, bold plaids and paisley are all a good choice, provided the pattern doesn’t clash with your shirt.

THE KNOT
Finally, you need to know how to tie your tie. The current style is a smaller, neat knot. Don’t worry with the well known half Windsor. Instead, stick to the lesser known four-in-hand knot. You can wear it with a wide variety of collar styles, and it is neither too big nor too small.

There you have it. Stick to these tips and you’ll be rocking a tie in no time.

Easy Ways To Look Hip, Without Being A Hipster..

28on27's Easy Ways to look hip without being a hipster..

..Hipsters. They seem to be everywhere because, well, they are. Or, at least their style is.
Of course, the true hipster is about more than mere fashion. It's an attitude that tends to be a little rebellious, place high value on individualism, leans toward liberal politics and is big into indie rock/art. However, you don't have to change your socio-political views to take advantage of hipster style. Here are a few basic tips for looking hip without being a hipster.

GUYS & GALS

But first, a word about gender. When it comes to hipster fashion, the rules are almost identical for guys and girls. Seriously, there is very little differentiation. In fact, hipster hair styles tend to be intentionally androgynous. Regardless of whether or not you're rocking a Y chromosome, the following tips are equally applicable..

THINK SKINNY
We're not talking diet—we're talking cut. As in, skinny jeans, tapered shirts and thin ties. Your entire ensemble doesn't have to be form-fitting, but it's good to have at least one article of clothing that fits slim, and there are lots of options. Rare, novelty/vintage t-shirts are a great option, as are skinny jeans or, for the ladies, leggings. Bonus points if you can work a pair of Converse into your outfit.

THINK VINTAGE
Vintage is in right now in a big way. The more vintage (meaning older and rare), the better. Not only is it acceptable to hit the thrift stores searching out a unique style, it's advised. And don't forget the option of raiding your parents' (or grandparents') closets. The good news is that you can expand your wardrobe on the cheap. Yes, there are plenty of name-brand labels catering to the hipster style right now, but you can just as easily enhance your look by shopping at your local Goodwill.

THINK PERSONAL
In many ways, creating an individual look is the essence of hipster style. Whether that means altering your clothes with a personal touch—adding a couple of stylish rips to your jeans, for example—or accenting a jacket with a home-made pin, feel free to make your look yours. Unapologetic, slightly quirky individualism is cool.
Above all, have fun. There are few hard rules when it comes to hipster fashion, so embrace a look that is stylish while remaining comfortable and personal. Make it yours.
