Shame Free Manscaping this summer...

Okay, so you’re tired of folks down at the local pool claiming they’ve seen Big Foot any time you decide to take a dip. Very understandable. In recent years, ‘manscaping’, or body hair trimming and removal for men, has become popular. However, it’s a daunting task and you don’t want to go about it the wrong way. Here are a couple of tips to get you looking good all over for summer. PRIMING First, before you start shaving any body hair (assuming you’re planning to shave), take the time to do some trimming. A pair of clippers comes in handy here. If you are planning to shave, the closer the trim, the better. Just be careful around any loose skin or sensitive areas, like your nipples. You want to clip the hair, not your skin. BACK HAIR Kill it. Kill it all.  You can remove all the hair from your back without a second of hesitation. Our culture is pretty much agreed that backs are better hairless. The problem of back hair is that it can be tough to reach. The most obvious solution is to recruit help—a girlfriend, wife or friend who owes you a great deal of money. If enlisting a shave slave is not an option, there are some clever products out there (like the Razorba) that can help you achieve a hairless back solo. CHEST & STOMACH HAIR Some people like a hairy chest and some would rather go hairless all over. This is more a matter of preference than anything else. If you’re not sure how shorn you want to go, start with just trimming your chest/stomach hair and see how it looks, but don’t get too creative. There’s no need for designs or intricate blending. Just pick a length and trim, trim, trim. If you decide you’d prefer no hair, you can (carefully) trim against the grain with the lowest setting on your clippers, or shave. Shaving against the grain will get you a closer shave, but may also result in some ingrown hairs. UPKEEP Whatever degree of manscaping you decide on, try to maintain your groomed look throughout the summer. Stay Groovy Every Day

June 26th 2013 photo by Ian Sautner Maybe because its Wednesday?! Maybe it’s because you had one too many glasses of red wine the night before. Maybe it’s because your mother-in-law popped in over the weekend.  Whatever the reason for your foul mood today, it’s time to push the little black cloud hovering over your head away.  The only person responsible for your current mood is you. Having a positive attitude is not something that can be learned. The ability to stay positive and happy is a choice. Your bad mood can’t last forever, eventually you will feel better. If you can accept the erratic nature of life, it’s much easier to stay relaxed, happy, and calm. Here are 28on27's tips on how to keep on feeling groovy, no matter the mountain load of s**% that's falling: 1). Appreciate each day. Whatever happens, good or bad, you can’t change or get back what happened in the past 24 hours. Live in the moment and appreciate the people and the world ­­around you. 2). Have a dance. Many situations and scenarios are out of our control. But there are a lot of things we can control.  We can choose to be in a good mood. We can choose to eat healthier. We can choose to whack on our power song and groove out.  3). Don’t sweat the small stuff. Ask yourself, “Will this matter in 100 years?” “Will it be a big deal if I don’t get my way?” Practice turning the other cheek. 4). Be thankful. There is always something to be thankful for, no matter what you’re facing in your life. Do you have healthy children? Are you in a warm, loving, relationship? Did you have coffee this morning? Did your Golden Retriever lick you just before you left the house? Think about what you have instead of what you don’t have. 5). What’s the worst that could happen? Paolo Coelho wrote, “The fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself.” Chances are “the worst” isn’t all that bad. You’ll survive even if you butchered today’s presentation. That bad date last night doesn’t mean you won’t ever find true love. A job loss doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose everything. Spruce up your apartment!

Most people don’t dream of living in tight, cramped, or confined living spaces. However, if you’re on a tight budget, you live in the city, or you’re a recent grad, chances are you’ll be spending a decent amount of time living in a small. Make the most of your available space by following these easy-to-do design tips: 1). Put a mirror on your living room’s wall. A large mirror will add more light into your room. A mirror also gives the optical illusion of more space. However, multiple mirrors in the same room will work against you. 2). Keep your furniture to scale. Big furniture will fill up your space fast. Buy tall furniture instead of wide furniture. 3). Invest in a good statement piece. One or two statement pieces can transform the entire look and feel of your space. A statue, a unique figurine, or pieces of artwork are a few examples of statement pieces. Pick something that has a “wow” factor. Your piece should make you feel good. After all, you’ll have to look at it every day.  4). Choose a color scheme. Try to keep all your furniture and décor in the same color family. A large pattern on a piece of furniture can really overwhelm your small space. A monochromatic look is great for the person who wants their place to look bigger than it really is. 5). Invest in a large book case. A book case is an interesting way to display any miscellaneous items that would cause clutter otherwise.
