How to cure a hangover!

March 28th 2013

28on27's Ways to Cure a hangover!

We've had our share of events, openings, and celebrations. Although each event is different, a lot of the parties have at least one thing in common—alcohol. After a long night of eating, drinking, and socializing, waking up the next morning can be a harrowing experience. No one likes hangovers.

Many guests have sworn by raw eggs, eating a greasy fast-food breakfast, consuming pasta before bed, or worse, drinking more when they wake up (Hair of the dog anyone?). Foreign cultures can get more extreme.

In Ireland it’s believed that burying your friend up to his neck in wet sand can help cure a hangover. In Haiti, sticking 13 pins into the cork of the hangover-inducing bottle can keep a hangover a bay. While we haven’t buried anyone in sand or used any corks as voodoo dolls, we can tell you what works for us..

Drink water: Alcohol dehydrates you. If possible, try to consume 16-20 ounces of water before you go to bed.

Toast or crackers: Carbohydrates can help bring your sugar levels back up in the morning. When you’re drinking, your liver is too busy metabolizing the alcohol and can’t handle the extra work of producing more glucose from stored carbohydrates.

Eat food before: Drinking on an empty stomach might help you save a few dollars—but it isn’t worth the nasty hangover you’ll encounter the next morning. What you eat before the drink is more important than what you eat after. Food slows down the absorption of alcohol. Toast and crackers won’t help much if you’re already hugging the toilet.

28on27 wants you to remember to drink responsibly, have fun, and never drink and drive!

28on27's Date Night Movies!

March 12th 2013

28on27's Date Night Movies for March!

Going to the movie theatre is the best default date ever—both new and seasoned couples can always enjoy a movie. However, the similarities end there. First date movie goers should steer clear of horror films, chick-flicks, and super melodramatic films. Nothing says “it didn’t work out” like stress-induced sweat stains after Paranormal Activity.

No matter how well you know your date, here are 28on27’s 3 great movie recommendations for March:

Django Unchained: Although violent, this dramatic film incorporates comedy, history, love, and action. Two years before the Civil War, Django, a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. After they’re successful, the bounty hunter frees Django and the duo hunts the most-wanted criminals all while looking for Django’s long lost wife.

Warm Bodies: Horror and comedy mesh together for this zombie-boy-falls-in-love-with-human-girl film. R, an unusual zombie, saves a human girl from being attacked by zombies. Slowly, as their bond grows, a series of events unfold that could transform the entire lifeless world.

The Host (3/29/13): Stephanie Meyer has done it again—not with vampires, but with brain leeching invaders. These invaders have taken over the “normal” human world—violence is gone, everyone is nice, the world has never been better. Humans have become hosts for these invaders; their minds have been taken over while their bodies remain intact. You may realize some Twilight similarities: one of the hosts falls in love with a human.

28on27 Oscar Recap!

March 4th 2013

Hollywood Reporter

28on27 Recaps the Oscars!

Last Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony scored the largest TV audience in three years—approximately 40.3 million Americans tuned in to watch their favorite actors, directors, and performers strut the red carpet, talk about their designer looks, and ultimately, collect the coveted gold statuettes.

Here are some of 28on27’s favorite moments,

1). Method-serious actor Daniel Day-Lewis’s light, humorous, and well-articulated speech. He couldn’t have done it any better.

2). Jennifer Lawrence. Everything about her—we loved her fall on the stage, her charming speech that addressed the fall: “you guys are just standing up because you felt bad that I fell,” her quirky sense of humor, her dress. Everything. She’s impossible to hate.

3). The first lady’s live presentation of the award for “Best Picture” from the White House. Aaahmazing.

And here are some moments we’d rather forget….

1). Brave co-director Mark Andres showed up in a peculiar choice of outfit—a kilt. “I just happened to be wearing the kilt,” he said. “I didn’t plan any of this.” Riiiiiight.
2). Seth MacFarlane. At least for us—why couldn’t Tina do it? We saw your boobs? Really?
3). Meryl Steep appeared to be picking a wedgie during one of her acceptance speeches.
4). Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy shared an unfunny, awkward skit about voicing animated characters. For two funny actors, they weren’t very funny.
Well..here’s to next year!
